UNDERSTANDING YOUR SKIN TYPE: THE KEY TO EFFECTIVE SKINCARE

One of the major questions I ask people when they come for consultation is this: “what’s your skin type?” And 90% of the time the answer is: “I don’t know."
Now, this is one of the major issue in the beauty industry which most people tend to avoid and not talk about. Even if they do talk about it, they merely scratch the surface.
This lack of understanding can lead to ineffective skincare routines, wasted product purchases, and frustrating skin issues.
Debunking Common Misconceptions
Before we dive in, let's clarify that skin complexion and skin type are not the same. Your complexion refers to your skin's color or tone, while your skin type determines how your skin behaves and your complexion doesn’t determine your skin type.
The 4 Major Skin Types
Everyone’s skin is normal, there is no such thing as good skin and bad skin. Whatever category you fall under, is perfectly normal, with or without blemishes.
In order to properly care for your skin and know what products to use, you need to first ascertain your skin type.
There are four primary skin types:
1. Normal Skin
The normal skin type produces just the right amount of sebum required by the skin to keep the skin moisturized. This skin type feels neither oily nor flaky. It usually feels supple and smooth. It is not too dry and not too oily. It has barely visible pores and no severe sensitivity and sometimes if properly taken care of, a radiant complexion. It also has a balanced pH and good elasticity.
If you have normal skin, consider including products that would further enhance your skin's health and boost radiance like Vitamin C and barrier strengthing ingredients like ceramides and hyaluronic acid.
Consider adding the BALANCE & GLOW KIT to your routine. Contains everything you need for healthy, glowing skin.
2. Dry Skin
This skin type produces less amount of sebum required by the skin to keep it moisturized. Dry skin oftentimes feels tight, rough and parched and may show flakes of dead skin. When not properly taken care of, dry skin types usually appear to have a dull, rough complexion, red patches, less elasticity and more visible lines. When further exposed to drying factors, skin can crack, peel or become itchy, irritated or inflamed, rough and scaly.
If you have dry skin, you need products that would deeply hydrate and moisturize your skin and also boost radiance.
The HYDRATE AND GLOW KIT contains everything you need to achieve a moisturized, radiant skin.
3. Oily Skin
This skin type produces more than the required amount of sebum needed to keep the skin moisturized. It is common for people that fall under this category to have dull, shiny and tired looking skin and sometimes, large pores, blackhead and acne.
If you have oily skin, opt for products with ingredients like niacinamide to balance oil production and improve radiance.
The Beauty Formulas Illuminating Niacinamide Serum is a good recommendation.
4. Combination Skin
This skin type has an irregularity when it comes to producing sebum for the skin. It often exhibits traits of all the previously mentioned skin types. Usually the skin is oily in the T-zone and normal to dry elsewhere or vice versa. It is often characterised with uneven texture.
If you have combination skin, your major focus should be to restore balance to your skin.
The BALANCE & GLOW KIT is just perfect for you.
